My Low-Maintenance Beauty Routine as a Mom
There was a time when I thought I needed a long skincare routine, countless hair products, and a makeup bag full of items to feel put together. Like many moms, I spent time chasing beauty trends and trying every product that promised better skin, shinier hair, or a more polished look.
Then one day I realized something: the more products I added, the worse my skin and hair seemed to feel. I was spending more money, more time, and more energy trying to maintain a routine that simply wasn’t working for me.
So I stopped.
Why I Simplified My Beauty Routine
There are two main reasons I decided to embrace a low-maintenance beauty routine.
First, I simply don’t have the time or patience for extensive routines anymore. Between raising kids, managing a household, and everything else life throws my way, spending an hour getting ready just isn’t realistic.
Second, I noticed that piling product after product onto my skin and hair was creating a vicious cycle. The more I used, the more I felt like I needed. My hair felt weighed down, my skin felt overwhelmed, and I was constantly searching for the next miracle product.
Simplifying everything changed that.
My Simple Hair Routine
My hair routine is probably the simplest it’s ever been.
I wash my hair daily, which I know goes against some popular beauty advice, but it works incredibly well for me. Since I started washing my hair every day, it has become healthier, shinier, and my curls have never looked better.
I use a shampoo and conditioner duo. Some days I condition my hair, and some days I don’t.
If I condition in the shower, I simply comb my hair afterward and let it air dry.
If I skip conditioner, I apply a small amount of hair oil, comb it through, and that’s it.
No complicated styling products. No heat tools. No lengthy routines.
Just healthy, happy hair that works with my lifestyle instead of against it.
My Family-Friendly Skincare Routine
When it comes to skincare, I love products that can do more than one job.
I use a gentle cleanser for both my face and body because I appreciate simple, multi-use products. I also use a gentle moisturizer daily from head to toe.
Even better, many of the products I use work for the entire family, including my kids. Having fewer products in the house makes life easier, saves money, and reduces clutter.

I Rarely Wear Makeup
This might not be for everyone, but I rarely wear makeup anymore.
The truth is, I simply feel better without it.
On most days, I use a little eyeliner and a lip stain. That’s it.
Not only does it help me feel put together, but it’s also incredibly easy to remove at the end of the day.
No complicated makeup routine. No spending extra time in front of the mirror. Just a few simple touches when I want them.
The Unexpected Benefits of Simplifying
The biggest surprise wasn’t how much money I saved or how much time I got back.
It was how much better I felt.
My skin is glowing. My hair is shiny and healthy. But most importantly, my mind feels less busy.
I no longer wake up thinking about all the things I “have” to do to my hair or makeup before I can start my day. Simplifying my beauty routine removed stress that never needed to be there in the first place.
As moms, our schedules are already full. If simplifying a routine can give us back a little time and peace, that’s a win.
Do What Makes You Feel Beautiful
I know everyone is different. We all have different skin types, hair types, lifestyles, and preferences.
What works for me may not work for someone else, and that’s completely okay.
I’m a big advocate for doing what makes you feel beautiful and confident. Whether that’s a five-step routine, a fifteen-step routine, or no routine at all, the right choice is the one that fits your life and makes you feel your best.
For me, less has truly been more.
And honestly, I’ve never been happier with my skin, my hair, or the simplicity of my daily routine.
